Details: The Skirt

The Detail: A skirt is a piece of trim just below the stool, or ledge, of a window sill. Some homes don’t include a skirt at all, while others simply use a piece of casing for the skirt. An important custom detail on most of our homes is a separate skirt.

Why It Matters: Details like a true window skirt matter for the overall design of a window. Proportion and scale are imperative and a properly sized and constructed skirt adds to the appeal rather than distracts as it transitions the window into the wall.
